business integrity

“..The quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness, the state of being whole and undivided..”

Webster's dictionary

“…Honesty is conforming our words to reality. Integrity is conforming reality to our words.”

“…Keeping promises and fulfilling expectations. This requires an integrated character, a oneness, primarily with self but also with life.”

Two opposing realities

There is an urban legend about a Professor of Ethics in City University, who was found to be immoral. When he was asked how an immoral person teaches Ethics? He answered, “You don't have to be a triangle to teach Geometry.” For others, integrity is not a garment that you put on or take off at will or convenience. It is rather something that is incorporated into one's self to affect his or her character traits and interaction with others in the wide world.

Integrity as pursuit

I have joined Genesis 4 years ago, when they already became one of the top 10 e-waste recyclers in Chicago market, with major national and multinational corporations as clients.

Yet, they were still spending less than one third of one present of total revenue on sales and marketing, with customer base growing strictly from the relationships and direct efforts of the founders, referrals from clients, vendors and business partners. How was it possible?

So I asked. One of the founders put this way. “It is simple. We are always looking to give more, than we will take. And you always have my word. And since all I truly have in this world is my word - I don't break it for anyone or anything.”

It is the same today.
